Eritrea’s president Isaias Afwerki arrived in Juba, the capital city of the newly born nation of South Sudan, one day ahead, to participate in the official celebrations marking the declaration of the Republic of South Sudan due to take place on the 9th of July 2011.

On arrival at Juba International Airport, the President was accorded warm welcome by senior officials and Commanders of the Government of South Sudan and that of the Sudanese People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM). Continue reading

It has been 56 years in the making, but it is finally here. The year 1955 marks the beginning of the struggle of the people of South Sudan for dignity and self-determination; July 9, 2011, the successful completion of that epic national effort.

The odds were never easy for the people of South Sudan. They had to overcome immense difficulties and pay a heavy price in a journey full of twists and turns, successes and near fatal setbacks.
