Ethiopia Using Aid as Weapon of Oppression

Meles Zenawi uses billions of dollars of development aid as a tool for political oppression

BBC,

A joint undercover investigation by BBC Newsnight and the Bureau of Investigative Journalism has uncovered evidence that the Ethiopian government is using billions of dollars of development aid as a tool for political oppression.

Posing as tourists the team of journalists travelled to the southern region of Ethiopia. There they found villages where whole communities are starving, having allegedly been denied basic food, seed and fertiliser for failing to support Prime Minister Meles Zenawi.

The investigation has also gathered evidence of mass detentions, the widespread use of torture and extra-judicial killings by Ethiopian government forces. Yet Western donors including Britain – which is the third largest donor to Ethiopia – stand accused of turning a blind eye by continuing to provide aid money despite being warned about the abuses. ETHIOPIA: A Classic Case of the Accuser being the Culprit

Today’s ‘Ally’ ... when his days of 'Servitude' no longer required

By Sophia Tesfamariam,

Eritreans have been watching the flurry of reports emanating from the Ethiopian capital and have been following the minority regime’s latest shameful and embarrassing pandering at the UN Security Council. It was indeed a spectacle, one that the western media has chosen to ignore, for obvious reasons, but a spectacle witnessed by many, including Security Council members which include the regime’s powerful handlers.

Why were the minority regime’s cadres in such a ditzy, and what were they peddling this time around? The minority regime’s ignominious cadres left no stone unturned in yet another futile and desperate attempt to convince Security Council members to take further punitive actions against Eritrea and its people.
