President Afwerki’s Visit to Uganda and Ethiopian Press Reaction

President Isaias Afwerki and Yoweri Museveni toasting during a state dinner hosted in his honor at State House Entebbe

By TesfaNews,

The press and media in Ethiopia has been shocked, surprised and even angered by the invitation and the extremely warm welcome that was extended by President Museveni of Uganda to President Isaias Afwerki of Eritrea, for his three days state visit to the country.

Their frustration begins the day they heard Uganda declare Eritrea as “one of the strategically vital countries to the stability of the region, especially in the Horn of Africa and the wider global agenda.”  However, what they have failed to understand is, in politics, there is no permanent friend but permanent interest. Uganda is after its interest and so does Eritrea and the rest of the world. Continue reading

Eritrea Bought its 30% Bisha Mine Share From Nevsun for US$253.5 million

Nevsun sold 30% share of Bisha mine to ENAMCO for 253.5 million US dollars

Nevsun,

Nevsun Resources Ltd. (TSX:NSU / NYSE Amex:NSU) is pleased to announce that it has finalized its arrangements with the State of Eritrea regarding the purchase of 30% of the Bisha mine by the Eritrean National Mining Corporation (Enamco). The agreed price is US$253.5 million, which will be settled from the after tax cash flows generated by the Bisha mine.

The purchase price determination was subject to a process involving two independent international institutions that were mutually appointed by Nevsun and ENAMCO in January 2011. It should be noted that the purchase price is not indicative of the fair market value of Bisha but rather the outcome of a price determination process, defined in a 2007 shareholder agreement, based on parameters of the Bisha deposit as it was understood in 2007.
