Eritrea on Saturday denounced as unfounded US sanctions imposed on two Eritrean government officials accused of links to al-Qaeda affiliated Somali rebels.

They had been targeted “not because there is a shred of truth or material evidence to the false accusations heaped upon them” but because the US wanted to give the impression it was tightening its sanctions, said a statement.  Continue reading

One of the many baseless and false accusations fabricated to accuse Eritrea was that “weapons originating from Eritrea were found in with Somali warlords.” And the serial numbers of the weapons supposedly found in the hands of the warlords were presented to the monitoring group as evidence. “We have asked and confirmed that Russia previously sold the weapons to Eritrea,” the group had said.

At first, any naive party could be convinced by these facts. Even the Russians were forced to refer back to their documents, and, obviously, verified that the serial numbers in fact corresponded with their records. Continue reading

Ethiopia Rebel Group Protests over UN body’s AU Terror Plot Report

The Monitoring Group has reached its unsubstantiated conclusion based on the claim of the Ethiopian regime without counterchecking with other sources: OLF

An Ethiopian rebel group, the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF), wrote a protest letter to United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, denying any involvement in the alleged bomb plot at an African Union Summit held in Addis Ababa earlier this year.

A UN Monitoring Group on Somalia and Eritrea (MGSE) report on July 28th accused the outlawed OLF of attempting to smuggle explosives into Addis Ababa to bomb the AU headquarters.

Ethiopian security forces said they foiled the attack and arrested suspects days before the planned attack. Continue reading
